I get a lot of b/s emails and have yet to try this, but wish I would have known a month about this....

Tick Removal:
Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your children or your pets. Give it a try.

Please forward to anyone with children, hunters or dogs or anyone who even steps outside in summer!

A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough to share--and it really works!

"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great because it works in those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc.

"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.

"Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, "It worked!"

I think the hard freezes may have wiped em out. Hard freeze occured after the soil warmed and got rain

My wife's garden is starting to take shape and is lookin good.
Can't begin to list what she plants. It would be easier to list what is not in there. I can almost taste the great salsa, spagetti sauce, frozen corn, canned beans, fresh garlic and many more fresh veggies. We are behind you Missouri gardeners but had frost several nights which made waiting a little well worth it.

Having trouble with deer snacking at night. Any good suggests on keeping them out?

Found a dozen or so yesterday in about 10 minutes, then spent 2 hours looking for more with no luck... ah well, *very* worth it.

I found a nice mess of these last Friday and with more recent rains they should be bigger and more of them. I would get out and look if you can. Best places seem to be places with little ground cover and patchy moss around white oaks.

I have stump in may yard and these mushrooms are growing like crazy every Day. Can someone tell me what they are it looks like Oysters and the one like gummy bear is like wood ear mushroom.

Found this one on May 5th 2012. That tree had close to a dozen chickens on it and more forming. giving them a couple days and going back. Anyone have suggestions for cooking them? I have never tried them so i only took the one in the photo, but if my family likes them i will be back for more. Just thought i would put the word out that they have arrived.

i would like to know anyones speculation on the beginning of trumpet season. my speculation is that it could be soon considering the peculiar year weve had so far. im sure chicken of the woods will be around soon as well, but really have my sights set on black trumpets right now. please share any experience youve had with this species, and maybe we can all forget about morels a little easier:S
